There are a number of cosy pubs and bars to choose from in and around Rosscarbery. Traditional Irish folk music sessions are regularly held in the various venues and set dancing is encouraged. Play darts, rings, cards or pool ‘till your heart’s content. All major national and international sporting events are shown daily on plasma screen TVs in Rosscarbery’s many pubs. In good company enjoy a GAA, rugby or soccer match or relax with some golf, tennis or snooker. The pubs of Rosscarbery are child friendly and Wi-Fi is available in some public houses. Dancing is always encouraged in the pubs of Rosscarbery! All year round you’re bound to find céilí dancing or set dancing in our local pubs. Ocean View, in Owenhincha, opens every Sunday night in the summer for music and dancing. Owenhincha is a three minute drive from Rosscarbery and at night taxis travel regularly to and from Ross and Owenhincha. So get those toes tapping folks!

The Four Alls: Michael Collins “Local”
Visit the Four Alls’
tavern at Sam’s Cross and enjoy a sup in Michael Collins “local”! On the day he
was shot, August 22nd 1922, Collins bought a round of pints in the
Four Alls for his soldiers! Browse the many photos and learn all about his
early life in West Cork. Sign the visitors’ book. Can you spot Liam Neeson’s
signature? Neeson played Michael Collins in the 1996 film of that name. How
about Tom Cruise’s signature? While you’re in the Four Alls take in the
surrounds: Michael’s mother, Marianne O’Brien, was born in the house opposite
in 1855 and in the house next door to that Collins met family members for the
last time the day he died. The Four Alls is a child-friendly pub with a large
traditional open fireplace, pool tables, jukebox and a fully-equipped outdoor
bar. Sam’s Cross is a 10 minute drive from Rosscarbery.

Rossmore Drama and Entertainment Centre
Rossmore Drama and Entertainment Centre is the home of the West Cork Drama Festival and the award-winning Kilmeen Drama Group. This modern venue, with tiered seating and a fully-licensed bar, is an excellent setting for drama, music, song and dance, as well as community events. Every year the centre hosts a diverse range of arts events, including theatre shows, concerts, film screenings and workshops. Kilmeen Drama Group compete annually in the 3 Act and 1 Act amateur festival circuits. This drama group have won the coveted All-Ireland 3 Act title four times since 2006 and in 2011 they won the 1 Act All-Ireland title. In 2013 Kilmeen became the first ever drama group in the 61-year history of the RTÉ All-Ireland Open Drama Festival to win three consecutive titles with their production of ‘Playboy of the Western World’ by J. M. Synge. Rossmore is a fifteen minute drive north of Rosscarbery. Plays also held regularly in the Celtic Ross Hotel.

The nearest night clubs and late night bars are located in Clonakilty, a ten minute drive from Rosscarbery and Skibbereen, a 15 minute drive from Rosscarbery. Choose from a wide choice of disco and music venues. At weekends taxis travel regularly between Ross and Clonakilty/Skibbereen.

Night Diving
West Cork is one of the best dive destinations in the world! Whether you’re an experienced diver or new to the sport, Rosscarbery is a great place to embark on your scuba diving adventure. Under the stars this experience becomes all the more magical! The warming influence of the Gulf Stream and the clear unpolluted waters make it ideal for night diving. By moonlight dive the caves, gullies, reefs and islands of West Cork among the fish, basking sharks, seals, dolphins and whales. Explore the sheltered coastline with its many secret creeks and inlets. See the sea come to life with bioluminescent flashes! Be sure to investigate the many well-preserved shipwrecks and subs in diving range which provide an ecosystem teaming with diverse marine plants and fish. Diving and snorkelling equipment can be hired locally and guides will accompany you on your night dives.

Night-Time Kayaking
Kayaking under a starlit sky is a magical way to experience the real beauty of West Cork. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your eyes and ears adjust and how fast you learn to navigate in the darkness. You’re in for a treat with some spectacular bioluminescent displays! These are thousands of tiny flashes of light emitted from the marine life just below the water surface. Embrace the silence and solitude and as the hours drift by and the sun begins to rise listen out for the dawn chorus. A moonlight paddle can be enjoyed by all ages and no experience is necessary. A splash in the dark is a great idea for stags and hen parties! You will be accompanied by guides and single/double kayaks are available. Trips at twilight and dawn are also offered.

Night Fishing

Rosscarbery is a great spot for night fishing! In the Warren Strand, just minutes from Rosscarbery town, ray and dogfish are plentiful during the summer months, especially at night. Conger are also best taken on night tides. For those of you who want to try your hand at some fly fishing sea trout are sometimes seen jumping close to the shore at dawn. Rosscarbery Pier, minutes from the town, is also a safe spot for night fishing. No night-time fishing restrictions are imposed on visitors to Rosscarbery. Galley Head Lighthouse by Night
Experience Galley Head Lighthouse at night! The 21m high lighthouse station at Galley Head is perched on a dramatic clifftop about 40m above sea level. Built in 1875, the first light was established in 1878. At this time it emitted one of the most powerful lights (from a lighthouse) in the world! It displays an unusual landward arc of light which is all the more magical in the dark of night. The building itself is not open to the public but the light emitted from the building offers romantic night-time views of the West Cork coastline from Fastnet Rock to the Old Head of Kinsale. Look out for the sixteenth-century ruins of Dundeady Castle! Galley Head is located about 9km southeast of Rosscarbery and is a pleasant 15 minute drive.

Night-Time Golf

Rosscarbery Golf Driving Range, located minutes from Rosscarbery, is fully floodlit at night! It offers six all-weather indoor bays and two outdoor areas. The Driving Range, which overlooks Rosscarbery town and Rosscarbery bay, delivers panoramic views of the surrounding West Cork countryside. These views are all the more magical under a starlit sky! The golf range is open until 9 pm most days. For the kids, the pirate-themed crazy golf course at Smugglers Cove next door is open until 8pm most days.

Leisure Centre and Swimming Pool
The Celtic Ross Hotel leisure centre and swimming pool is open until 10 pm weekdays and 8 pm at weekends and bank holidays. There is a 15m heated indoor swimming pool, a children’s pool, bubble pool, sauna, steam room and a fully-equipped gymnasium. The leisure centre and pool have been awarded the White Flag Excellence Award which is based on the achievement of high standards in three key areas: safety, hygiene & maintenance and customer care. Residents and non-residents alike can avail of the pool and gym facilities.
